President Biden’s Pledge to Nominate a Black Woman to the Supreme Court

While any highly qualified Supreme Court candidate is welcome to showcase the diversity of the United States, President Biden sending a message to Americans that they are “ineligible” simply because of their race and gender is “systemic racism”. President Biden’s decision shows that he wants full credit for nominating the first Black Woman to the Supreme Court. Nominating any qualified woman of color should be reason enough but Biden’s shameful past shows more reasoning behind his latest campaign promise.

In 2003, Senator Biden led, filibustered, and killed the nomination of the first highly qualified black woman to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, which produced more Supreme Court justices than any other Federal court.

When President Bush announced his plans to nominate Judge Janice Rogers Brown, a “highly qualified woman” to an open seat on the Supreme Court, his promise was open to all women and not limited to a “race-obsessed” pledge that violates affirmative action and the racial “quota” system.

Biden’s pledge to nominate a Black Woman is an insult to all other women of color, including us… Asian, Pacific Islander, Filipino; however you identify. If you’re not a Black Woman, first and foremost, you do not qualify.

Asian, Pacific Islanders, Filipinos, and other Americans defended the cause of justice. They fought for diversity, equality, and the rights of others. This administration must recognize this fact and not be blind to the left-wing ideology because this is “unfettered systemic racism.”

There are extremely well-credentialed Asian, Pacific Islander, Filipino, and other American individuals that are more than qualified to serve on the Supreme Court. Now is not the time for Biden to want to right his wrongs from the past, because any qualified woman of color will bring diversity and representation to the Supreme Court.

The Filipino American PAC believes that Biden’s pledge to nominate a Black Woman to serve on the Supreme Court is a failure in the equality process.
